You may have heard the story a thousand times. You may have no idea what I’m talking about. Either way, here’s the starfish scoop.
Simple and sweet, this story changed my outlook on life about 6 years ago. My anxiety over being everything to everyone lessened, and I found myself more focused on helping one person, one animal, one cause- at a time. I felt less helpless and more powerful- I had the ability to make a difference once I gave myself permission to accept that I’m one person and can do only so much with 2 hands at a time. Those 2 hands can do a lot when they aren’t trying to juggle!
The part of the puzzle I missed, however, is that sometimes I am the starfish. You know the expression, “you can’t pour from an empty cup?” I didn’t, until recently. I can’t make a difference to anyone unless I’ve taken care of myself.
I’m so excited about what’s to come- I’m putting my life together one puzzle piece at a time, working on making self care a priority so I can keep throwing starfish back into the ocean.
